BERGMANN: Trailer controls tractor – TIM (Tractor Implement Management) for spreaders

Many digital functions pose major challenges for the driver. When using them, many factors come together: driving and operating the tractor, monitoring and operating the machine, and checking the work results. That is why BERGMANN has set itself several goals in the further development of ISOBUS control:

  • Increasing the efficiency and utilization of the tractor and spreader
  • Consistently good work and spreading quality
  • Reducing the workload for the driver

Further development has resulted in three areas of application for TIM:

  • TIM – SpeedControl: adjustment of the spreading quantity by varying the tractor's driving speed while maintaining a constant transport floor speed (= consistent spreading pattern)
  • TIM – PTOControl: switching the PTO on/off, linked to the transport ground speed; control of the PTO speed depending on the working width; automatic deactivation of the PTO if spreading discs or spreading rollers become blocked
  • TIM – HydraulicControl: operation without control block on the spreader, via the tractor's hydraulic valves with an ISOBUS terminal

TIM – SpeedControl: application rate control via TIM driving speed

TIM – SpeedControl is the first spread rate control for spreaders based on the AEF ISOBUS TIM standard. In a unique way, the conveyor speed is kept constant within the optimum range during spreading, depending on the material and the spread rate.
Compared to the familiar technique, in which the application rate is controlled by adjusting the transport floor speed, the spreading quality can thus be kept at a consistently high level.
In order to be able to respond to changes in the application rate at a constant conveyor belt speed, for example through the use of task cards or deviations in the application rate (comparison of ACTUAL and TARGET application rate), the tractor's driving speed is automatically varied during spreading by SpeedControl via ISOBUS-TIM. The control system continuously compares the ACTUAL application rate with the TARGET application rate in order to adjust the tractor's driving speed in the event of any deviations. The result of SpeedControl: precise application of organic materials with even longitudinal and lateral distribution for the highest spreading quality.

TIM – PTOControl: PTO control via TIM

TIM – PTOControl is the first PTO control for spreaders based on the AEF ISOBUS-TIM standard. Three functions are integrated here:

  • Switching the PTO on and off, linked to the transport floor: when the driver starts automatic spreading, the PTO is started automatically. After a short delay (time can be set), the transport floor starts. When automatic spreading stops, the procedure is reversed. The transport floor is stopped and, after a slight delay, the PTO is switched off. The driver does not need to perform any additional actions. For example, if the working width is set to 24 m, the PTO speed is set to 1000 rpm; if the working width is set to 18 m, the PTO speed is reduced to 800 rpm, for example. In this case, the driver no longer needs to adjust the speed, only the working width value.
The working width (and thus the PTO speed) can also be changed during spreading using the AUX-N buttons – for example, on the tractor's drive lever or on a separate AUX-N joystick.
  • The PTO shaft is automatically switched off as soon as a spreading disc or spreading roller becomes blocked. This protects the spreader from damage and allows the driver to focus on other tasks.

TIM – HydraulicControl: control of the spreader via ISOBUS without a control block

TIM – HydraulicControl is the first ISOBUS control system for spreaders without a hydraulic control block. The spreader's hydraulic hoses are connected to the tractor's hydraulic valves. The spreader's hydraulic valve controls the vehicle combination. An ISOBUS-TIM-compatible tractor and sufficient ISOBUS-TIM-controllable hydraulic valves for connecting the hydraulic hoses are required.
The advantages are cost savings due to the absence of a control block and the option of controlling the spreader both via ISOBUS and manually (tractor without ISOBUS-TIM) via the hydraulic valves (e.g., for rental).

The three areas of application will each be available separately in the future. In addition, the combination of TIM – SpeedControl and TIM – PTOControl as well as the combination of all three applications will be possible. At AGRIBEX 2025, the BERGMANN brand will be at the PACKO AGRI stand in hall 4, stand 4206.

The new ISOBUS-TIM applications can be selected as an option for spreaders in the BERGMANN XPERT series.

TIM – SpeedControl: the driving speed changes at a constant transport floor speed (here 0.9 m/min) and changed application rate: here 2.1 km/h at 25 t/ha application rate. Previously, the application rate was 12.5 t/ha and the driving speed was 4.2 km/h. The conveyor belt has the same speed of 0.9 m/min.

TIM – PTOControl: switching the automatic mode of the transport floor or automatic spreading on or off also activates or deactivates the PTO shaft and, if possible on the tractor, sets the required speed. The PTO speed can be selected according to the working width. In the event of mechanical overload, the PTO is switched off immediately.

TIM – HydraulicControl: the most important hydraulic functions of the universal spreader (e.g. transport floor, metering slide and boundary spreading device) are controlled by the tractor's hydraulic valves. The functions, and thus the tractor's hydraulic valves, are controlled from the universal spreader's ISOBUS control panel using ISOBUS-TIM.
